Even if you are the slightest bit interested in dieting and weight loss, you would have heard about the renowned Keto diet. In a small time, the diet has taken over the world, with celebrities, trainers and influencers vouching about it. Now weight loss expert Dr Michael Mosley has taken the Keto diet to another level with his new approach.
Dr Mosley, the renowned weight-loss guru, who is credited for the popularity of the 5:2 diet, keto diet, Fast 800 diet, has now come up with a weight loss diet called Fast 800 Keto. This new diet helps to burn fat faster as compared to the traditional method.
02/5Understanding fast 800 Keto diet
This modified version of the keto diet is different from the traditional method, which involved eating high fat and low carb food, to reach the phase of ketosis. This new diet helps to build the foundation for The Very Fast 800 and focuses on reducing the carbohydrates intake to push the body into more consistent nutritional ketosis. It is a three-stage programme, starting with the dieters going into the state of ketosis. The fast 800 diet is recommended for the period of eight weeks, before switching to intermittent fasting, and then following a Mediterranean diet to maintain a healthy weight. Dr Mosley suggests that this method can help people burn fat and lose weight faster.

03/5What is ketosis?
Ketosis is a metabolic state in which the body starts using fat stored in the body for producing in the absence of enough glucose from carbohydrates. The body first uses the glucose stored in the muscles and liver for producing energy. Once it is exhausted, it turns toward the fat and the body starts burning fat to carry out the daily functioning. Reaching the ketosis phase is essential when following the keto diet to achieve the desired result. According to the new diet trend promoted by Dr Mosley, one can reach the ketosis phase by reducing carb intake and incorporating intermittent fasting in the routine.

04/5How this diet works
Explaining the science behind the diet, Dr Mosley said that our body is designed to run on different fuels: sugar and fat. In an average person, 500 grams worth of sugar and 17 kilos of fat is stored in the liver and muscles. When it comes to producing energy, the body first uses sugar and is most likely to store the fat for rainy days. By cutting daily calories to 800 and slightly reducing carbohydrates intake, the body can start burning fat and lose weight. He termed this process as "flipping the metabolic switch.”
05/5Things to keep in mind
The expert warned that while following this diet trend one needs to be careful as switching can be uncomfortable in the beginning as the body is not used to it. But once the body gets used to it, the process for weight loss will be faster. Two things that need to be kept in mind while following this diet is reaching the ketosis phase and eating at least 60 grams of protein daily.
